How big is the Ocarina of Time remake?

The remake is about 24.5 GB. Nintendo first gave an estimated 27 GB when pre-orders opened in September, My Nintendo News reported on Sep 9, 2026. On Oct 24, 2026, My Nintendo News reported that the file had been "further compressed to 24.54GB", a figure Nintendeal found in the Nintendo eShop's back end. Nintendo UK's page has since changed to a "Download size" of 24.5 GB, which matches. Nintendo of America's page, read on Nov 1, 2026, still says 27 GB, labeled "Game file size (estimated)", and warns that "download size, may not be finalized at time of preorder".

A launch-day update could still add to it; Nintendo has announced none as of Nov 1, 2026.

Can you pre-load Ocarina of Time on Switch 2?

Nintendo has made no announcement of a pre-load for this game, but its general eShop rules allow one. Nintendo UK's pre-order and pre-load help page says that "When payment is processed, a non-playable version of the software will be downloaded to your console", and that payment is taken "at the earliest, seven days before the software is released". For Ocarina of Time, Nintendo UK's store page says a pre-order is charged automatically from seven days before release, which is Oct 29, 2026. The game cannot be played before Nov 5, 2026 in any region.

For the download to arrive on its own, Nintendo UK's store page says the console must be updated to the latest system software, connected to the internet and set to download automatically. A console left in sleep mode, online, downloads and installs updates by itself, the help page adds.

When does the pre-load unlock?

On release day. Nintendo of America's help page When Are New Games Added to the Nintendo eShop? says that "Digital software that is also sold physically will usually be available at 9:00 p.m. PT the night before the physical game's release date", and that the exact time "is decided by the publisher". Ocarina of Time is sold both ways, so in the Americas that points to 9 p.m. PT on Nov 4, 2026 (midnight ET on Nov 5), as Vice worked out on Oct 28, 2026. Nintendo UK's help page says "Most software titles are released at 00:00 on their release date", so Europe would follow at midnight local time on Nov 5. Neither is a statement about this game; Nintendo has not announced its hour as of Nov 1, 2026.

How much space do you need?

About 24.5 GB to 27 GB free, depending on which of Nintendo's figures holds. Nintendo UK's page asks buyers to "make sure you have enough storage to complete the download" and says an additional storage device may be needed. A microSD Express card adds room on Nintendo Switch 2 when its own storage is full. Buying the physical edition does not remove the need for space for updates; Nintendo has not said whether the box is a full game card or a Game-Key Card, as of Nov 1, 2026 (Editions, price and pre-order bonuses).
